Vera J. Hinshaw Park & Preserve
The Vera J. Hinshaw Park & Preserve is 11.73 acres of greenspace and undeveloped nature preserve located east of the Monon Greenway, just north of the Monon South Trailhead.
Preserve
The preserve has several mature, high-quality trees, including hickory, walnut, black cherry, and oak. Our goal is to foster sustainable woodland habitat and minimize the invasive species on the property with restoration efforts that encourage the reproduction of native species. We hope that removing invasives from the habitat will provide more opportunities for the natural regeneration of favorable native species and ultimately reduce the invasive seed bank. We have jumpstarted the restoration process by supplementing native trees and shrubs through planting efforts on World Habitat Day over the last several years.
Park
The park area next to the preserve was recently acquired by CCPR, through a joint management with Sunrise on the Monon HOA. It includes a small loop trail, pond, and shelter. The park also features a path that connects the neighborhood to the Monon Greenway, allowing both parkgoers and neighborhood residents easy access to the Monon!
