Carmel, Ind. (June 13, 2018) – Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation (CCPR) hired a Natural Resources Coordinator, Brittany McAdams, to assist with the department’s ongoing efforts to provide quality environment-focused programs and opportunities to the community.
Brittany holds her Masters of Science in Soil Science and Bachelors of Science in Natural Resources and Environmental Science. She has more than three years of field experience and looks forward to engaging with community members and working collaboratively to implement our natural resource management strategies.
In the coming weeks, Brittany will launch a new series titled “My Park,” an interpretive and park stewardship program that focuses on the natural history of the parks geared toward individuals 16+ years. The program will run annually, May-September, and will spotlight 5 different parks each year. This year’s line-up includes: Flowing Well Park, Central Park East Woods, Central Park West Lagoon and West Park. Join Brittany for the first in the series on Thursday, June 28 from 6-7pm at Flowing Well Park. No registration is needed.
The community is encouraged to participate in CCPR’s other environmental programs that take place throughout the park system – Indiana Master Naturalist programs for adults, Knee-High Naturalists for kids, the department’s Outdoor Explorers summer camp and more.
Outside of programming, community members can also get involved through volunteering. CCPR needs volunteers to help with a variety of projects including planting new trees, pulling invasive garlic mustard and more.
CCPR was the 2015 recipient of the Barb King Environmental Stewardship Award through the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). “Being a steward of the environment has been integral for Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation since inception,” said Michael Klitzing, Chief Operating Officer for CCPR. “Our focus and commitment to the environment goes beyond conservation and extends into education, awareness and outreach.”
