Are you looking for fun this fall?
Maybe your toddler loves to paint, or your preteen wants to learn about nature. We even have some spooky (not scary!) fun in store for individuals with sensory differences.
And don’t think we forgot about you – adults deserve a little adventure, too! Now is your chance to unwind with a relaxing yoga class or earn your first aid/CPR certification.
At Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation, we have something for everyone to enjoy. Read on to learn about five exciting recreation programs CCPR has to offer this fall.
Little Artists Series
Mondays, Nov. 4-25 | Ages 3-5 | Monon Community Center | $140
Ages 3-5 is when your kiddo really starts to develop a sense of self, along with a sense of style! You want to encourage them to explore their artistic side, but you’d rather they not do it all over your walls or clean countertops.
In our Little Artists Series, your kiddo can unleash their creativity in an encouraging, mess-proof environment. Choose between Drawing & Sketching, Acrylic & Watercolors or Clay & Collage as your medium to start, and professional artist Zach Lowe will help them create their very own masterpiece.
Owl Hooting at West Park
Friday, Dec. 13 | All ages | West Park | $15
Who, who, who wants to learn all about Indiana owls? Owls begin nesting in late January or early February, so this is a perfect time to spot owls establishing their nesting territories.
Among other educational activities, participants will dissect an owl pellet to learn what owls eat for dinner! We will end the evening with a short hike through the woods to hoot for an owl, weather permitting.
Sensory Friendly Trick-or-Treat Trail
Saturday, Oct. 26 | All ages | River Heritage Park | $10
Halloween can be difficult for those with sensory differences. This program is perfect for trick-or-treaters who want to skip the “trick” (scary masks and loud, frightening noises) and go right for the “treat” (friendly volunteers who pass out candy wearing non-frightening costumes!).
Participants will trick-or-treat along our fully accessible River Heritage Park trails. There will also be fun Halloween-themed games and crafts at the end of the trail! *Note: This event is designed for individuals with disabilities, but anyone can join in the fun.
We’re in need of volunteers to help make this event extra spooky special for trick-or-treaters. Interested in volunteering? Sign up here.
Yoga Transformation
Mondays, Nov 11 – Dec. 16 | Ages 16+ | Monon Community Center | $65
Think of this series of classes as a yoga 101! Perfect for beginners, Yoga Transformation is a combination of yin, restorative yoga, breathwork, mindful meditation, and therapeutic sound. The final class will also feature a full sound bath, where participants will experience a full-body meditative experience while being bathed in a series of healing musical vibrations.
Participants are encouraged to bring bolsters, pillows, blankets, or any other comfort items to aid in comfy, cozy relaxation!
Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR AED
Saturday, Oct. 19 & Wednesday, Nov. 13 | Ages 15+ | Monon Community Center | $85
A medical emergency can happen anytime, anywhere, which is why everyone can benefit from learning basic lifesaving skills like first aid and CPR. We now have AEDs (automated external defibrillator) stationed along the Monon Trail in case of cardiac arrest, but it’s still important need to learn how – and when – to use one.
Our experienced staff will help you earn your American Red Cross First Aid/CPR AED certificate by teaching you how to recognize and care for life-threatening emergencies in adults, children, and infants.
