How Not to Fall Out of Fitness

Finding the motivation to work out once cool weather comes around is difficult. In the spring, you’re working to get your “beach bod.” In the summer you’re working to maintain your “beach bod.” In the fall and winter it’s a lot easier to lay off the working out and say yes to that second helping, especially with all the holidays when you gather with family or friends to eat!

This season, try not to fall out of fitness. We’ve put together five easy tips to stay motivated and keep that fit, healthy body all year long.

 

1. Set Yourself Up for Success

There are lots of little things you can do to set yourself up for success. It’s as easy as putting a motivational post-it note on the bathroom mirror. If you plan on working out in the morning, lay out your workout gear the night before. If you know that scheduling your workouts at the beginning of the week will help you stay on track, then take the time to do it! These small, simple things can make a world of difference in your success.

  1. Mix it Up

Going to the same fitness class, jogging the same route or any regular workout routine can become monotonous. Keep yourself motivated by mixing it up! If you’re a member at the Monon Community Center, try coming to a class you’ve never tried. If you’re working out at home, utilize the internet or download an app! You can find lots of great tutorials and workout routines online. Whatever you decide to do, just make sure it’s something new to you!

  1. Phone a Friend

It’s a fact, working out with a friend or with a small group will help you work harder, stay accountable and show you BIG results! Think of it this way, working out with a friend is like working out with your own personal cheerleader. Plus, it’s also a great way to cut through the busy clutter of life and stay connected.

  1. Something is Better Than Nothing

So, you can’t get an hour of intense cardio in today. Don’t call it quits so fast! Even a quick 20-30 minute workout is better than doing nothing at all. Work at a desk all day? While on a phone call multitask and do squats or lunges. Practicing quick workouts on your busy days will help you form a habit of fitness..

  1. Commit to Fit

If you’re reading this blog, then you’re probably interested in leading a healthy, fit life. It can be difficult to commit to regular exercise with the everyday tasks that fill our time. One way to make sure fitness is a priority is to carve out the time. Try scheduling sessions with a personal trainer. This can be helpful in two ways. First, if you schedule a session with a personal trainer you aren’t likely to skip it. This is a session you’ve paid for after all! Second, working with a personal trainer ensures that you’re making the most of the time you’ve set aside to work out. Your personal trainer will design workouts for you and your goals.
